Toddler Art Project: Making a “Discovery Bag”

Looking for a great toddler art project? Something your little one can use and learn from over and over again, even as a preschooler? If that’s what you’re looking for, then this craft is perfect! When your child is done with this simple tote bag art project, you can use this bag to teach your toddler about colors, shapes, numbers, letters, and more! There’s a whole page  explaining how to use this bag in a fun toddler learning activity when your bag is completed.

A list of materials needed and step-by-step instructions are below, so let’s get started!

Materials Needed For This Toddler Art Project:

– Non-toxic, washable paint

– Paintbrush

– Canvas Tote Bag

– Sponges

– Scissors (Adult use only)

Directions For The “Discovery Bag” Art and Craft Project:

First, help your child give the tote bag a background color by using one of the sponges to spread the paint all over the front of it.

Allow the tote to dry for a few minutes. While the tote is drying, use the scissors and cut the other sponge into shapes: circle, square, rectangle, triangle, etc.

Next, write the words “Discovery Bag” prominently on the canvas tote bag.

After that, let your child dip the sponge shapes into paint and place all along the bag.

The order and color doesn’t matter, but having a variety of colors does. Later, when your toddler uses this completed project, these shapes and colors will serve as a reference to help your little one find certain colors or shapes to put in the bag.

Finish up the art project by drawing any numbers you may want on there, and allow your toddler craft to dry completely!
