Easy Toddler Craft Idea: Transforming a Door Into a Canvas

Looking for an easy toddler craft idea that is virtually free? Transform your door into an art canvas with this toddler activity using materials you probably already own! Plus, it only takes a few minutes to set this activity up, so you spend less time doing prep work and spend more time being “artistic” with your toddler!  This fun art activity is also great for preschoolers and school-aged children! Look below for the materials you’ll need for this easy craft and the directions!

Materials Needed For This Easy Toddler Craft Idea:

  • A Roll of Wrapping Paper
  • Scissors (For Adult Use Only)
  • Crayons, Washable Markers, or Non-Toxic Washable Paint
  • Painters Tape, or Other Tape Safe For Use on Doors

Directions:

First, decide which door you want to use. Next, take the wrapping paper and unroll it until the paper length is about a foot taller than your child.
Next, cut the wrapping paper using the scissors. Then take the paper and tape it to the door, blank side facing out, using the painter’s tape. If the wrapping paper is covering a door knob then make a slit using the scissors in the wrapping paper so the door knob comes through and the paper lays flat.

Now your easy craft canvas is ready! Use crayons, washable markers or washable non-toxic paint to decorate the paper with your child. If you have a young toddler, you’ll probably want to focus more on allowing your toddler to practice drawing in general, rather than expecting your little one to try and draw real objects. If you have an older child, you can try to do a theme by drawing jungle pictures, barn animals, insects, seasons, weather, holiday pictures, etc.
